Southwest Airlines Medical Transportation Grant Program
The Nebraska Medical Center is honored to have partnered with Southwest Airlines
to help patients in need of financial assistance with transportation for medical
services. Southwest Airlines has graciously provided The Nebraska Medical Center
with roundtrip airfare to be used for patients and caregivers who qualify for financial
assistance to help defray the cost of travel.

Omaha experienced a taste of polo at the June 28 “Polo for Patients” fundraising
event held at Levi Carter Park and raised over $400,000 in the process.

Former Cancer Patient Makes Commitment to Help Others in Need
Bill and Dagmar Jurgens want to ensure that not one patient’s stay at The Nebraska
Medical Center is compromised due to a lack of family funds or other basic needs.
A cancer survivor himself, Bill and his wife are committed to helping others in
need during this frightening and uncertain time. Since his successful stem cell
transplant approximately two years at The Nebraska Medical Center, Bill has been
reaching out to others as a regular contributor to the Nebraska Medical Center’s
Patient Assistance Fund.
Neurology Patient Care Unit Dedicated in Memory of Dwight Burney
For more than 30 years, Dwight Burney, Jr., MD, dedicated his life to helping others.
An orthopedic surgeon at the former Clarkson Hospital, Dr. Burney’s legacy will
live on at The Nebraska Medical Center through a new state-of-the-art neurological
patient care unit made possible by Kathryn Burney in memory of her late husband.
Omaha Couple Funds New Patient Waiting Area
In gratitude for The Nebraska Medical Center’s exceptional care, Tim and Teddi Slattery
recently donated a gift that will enable us to renovate the waiting room outside
our recently updated state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization labs. Their gift will
provide a more comfortable and attractive environment for all families anxiously
waiting the prognosis or recovery of a loved one.

Cancer Survivorship Program Addresses Patients’ Long-Term Needs
It had been a year since Holly Sobota had completed treatment for breast cancer
and was given a clean bill of health. Even so, Sobota continued to deal with the
emotional and physical challenges cancer leaves with its victims such as fear of
recurrence, physical and medical long-term side effects and learning how to return
to a normal life again.
